I’m employed by a company headquartered in Wisconsin, that uses Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, and I live in Oregon (the branch I work for is in Oregon as well). I’ve been told by many providers that take BCBS that they don’t take BCBS of Illinois, so I do without a lot of services I want. However my primary care doctor says I have BCBS Oregon, that is how it’s listed in my file, and I’ve had everything covered with that practice. So I’m confused. Is everyone who takes BCBS actually in network? And what does the state portion of BCBS really mean?
