My fiancee’s employer is based in Ohio, and only offers Aultcare. We live/work in Pennsylvania and the plan isn’t in-network in our state. What can we do?

Hello! Thanks in advance for your help.

As the title suggests my fiance (M34) works for a company that is based out of Ohio but has a very small Pennsylvania branch. The Pennsylvania branch is himself, and his workmate in the truck. They travel to different homes and install Cambria countertops.

He’s had their insurance for two or three years but recently we have wanted to get him more medical care due to an issue with his stomach. As we try to find him a PCP we found out that his insurance is not taken by any doctors in Pennsylvania. I (F32) called the insurance company to verify this and they were unable to offer any doctors in network in Pennsylvania.

I contacted my state senator’s office and they reported that we will have to have a conversation with HR before we can move forward. Today I am asking for any assistance on how to word the email to the HR department to move forward with getting him an affordable plan offered by his employer.

I thought in the past about opting out of his employer health insurance and going through something in the marketplace, but I understand that that may not be the best option? There is some type of a employer tax credit that we would have to take on if we went through the marketplace instead of through his employer? And he additional information would be appreciated.

We don’t plan on getting married for quite a while so it would be sometime before I could put him on my health insurance. Is this something that I should even worry about right now or should we just get married and add him to my plan?

Edit: We live in zip 15014. He works out of 16066. I work out of 15139.
