Need Coverage from now until EOY. What are my options?

So my COBRA option (retroactive option) ends by EOM and I will most likely be abandoning COBRA for a cheaper marketplace plan. Unfortunately my new coverage does not start until the beginning of 2021. So I have about 35 days where I will not have any type of medical insurance.

Are my only options to just enroll in short term health insurance?

From previous posts, I have not heard any good things about short term health insurance and sounds like a scam. I am relatively healthy in my late 20s and do not have any pre existing conditions and am not on medications. I just want to insure against potential coronavirus medical costs (hospitalization) and ER visits as I will be driving across the country in December.

Is there any way I can get a “real” insurance plan for my gap?
