I need a resection surgery for a super painful and rare coalition at my ankle that I’ve been struggling through all of 2020. After a year of testing and seeing specialists and dealing with insurance an orthopedist nearby has agreed to do the surgery. However the surgery was cancelled without my knowledge because I had reported an income so low that I no longer qualified for Covered California and was moved instead to Medi-Cal. Because I couldn’t get anyone on the phone for days, I have to spend the last two months of this year uninsured and can’t schedule anything until I am reenrolled in Covered California in 01/2020.
The confusion is over and the suffering is close to ending. I can enroll in and am willing to pay for whatever the best insurance would be where I would be getting the most financial help. I already have the doctor ready for my call. Last year due to low income I had the cheapest possible insurance and dealing with the HMO was a nightmare. I’m hoping you fine folks could help me pick between HMO, PPO, and EPO and what categories and figures to look for. I haven’t been able to figure out how much the surgery will cost via Google, but it seems simple enough that I just need to do two weeks non-weight bearing and about five physical therapy appointments. Aside from the immense pain in my leg, I am quite healthy.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
