I’m 24 and I’ve had a persistent issue with an ankle for a couple of years. I want to handle it, but I am new to healthcare and want to ensure that I handle it properly.
I travel full time, but I am a Florida resident. It is easiest for me to see a doctor in California. I plugged my info into healthcare.gov and it says I am eligible now for a plan in Florida because I moved (I mean I’m always moving…). It doesn’t appear like I am eligible for any of the super-subsidized plans. I am seeing options like $375 a month for a “Gold” plan. Obviously, the ability to use it nationwide is mandatory. I am open to all advice on how to ensure I choose the right plan as well as any ways to lower the cost.
I’m not quite sure what is wrong with my ankle. I broke it 10+ years ago and had some issues afterwards, but xrays showed nothing wrong. Eventually, my problems went away, but they reemerged a couple of years ago after I got back into running. I can still walk long distances but the ankle is always a limiting factor and running is out of the question.
I am concerned that I will buy health insurance and the doctors will find nothing wrong again, leaving me to pay for health insurance for an entire (year?) that is useless to me. I’m pretty confident the only actual solution to my problem is surgery, which I imagine I would want insurance to cover….I’m just worried about plunking down $5K in premiums with no results.
