So here’s my current predicament: I live in NJ and work for a small employer, 2 owners, 3 employees, and currently they contribute 100% of employee health insurance and 50% of spouses and dependents.
I am planning on taking unpaid leave to help my wife after she gives birth to twins. My boss is saying that he is going to “keep me on the company health insurance”, but I will have to pay the company back for 100% of the premium while on leave.
Since I am paying the company back, isn’t this “Continuation of Benefits”? I ask this because I don’t want to be handcuffed to the company insurance, as it may be too much to keep up while on unpaid leave.
That and the owner just announce today that they will no longer be covering the employees at 100% starting while I’m out on leave.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
