Non-catostrophic health insurance options for going back to school (NY, USA)

I’m not sure if this is totally the right place to ask this, so if someone knows a better sub, please let me know, I’ll cross-post it.

Anyway, I’m looking into going back to school for another bachelor’s in naval architecture and marine engineering. There’s only one problem…

I’m 28 going on 29 in a couple months (and wouldn’t be starting until 30) and due to the rigor of the program at this particular school (and in general, by the nature of the program; the school only offers one degree and it’s a dual-major) balancing a full-time job for health insurance with school is probably going to be impossible. It’s just about as many credits I took last go around (147), but crammed into 4 years, I needed an extra semester last time.

In any event, I have epilepsy. It’s my black-cloud that I carry around with me. I started seeing new doctors in NYC who are more specialized and experienced, we’re making some progress, but I’ll more than likely be on meds for life (even with surgery; which we were exploring rigorously until bodies started piling up in the city at the height of the pandemic here).

Depression has also been an issue my whole life (very much exasperated due to this career struggle) and I’ve been seeing an out of network therapist for that after others (including drugs) have failed; but managed to get the insurance company to pay. The only thing that’s managed to get it under control is TMS and my current therapist, who’s a little “out of the box.” I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s related to the epilepsy in all honesty.

Having said, I’m not your typical 20-something who can do without insurance or buy a catastrophic-only plan. I suppose if I’m not working, Medicaid would cover me, but I’m not sure what that’d really get me, if anything at all. I’m on a brand-name medication, in addition to a cocktail of generics, for the epilepsy now and (so far) they’re working. I highly doubt Medicaid would cover a brand-name Rx.

And before you say it, the school does not have a health plan for students. So I need my own.

So having said that, any ideas?
