Location: NYC
Background: So I’m actually still working but I will likely quit my job very soon for health reasons. I exhausted my FMLA and am out of sick days. But I still need to undergo more medical tests and see more doctors to get a firm diagnosis and proper treatment.
After I lose my job, I will need to use COBRA to keep my health insurance. My current health insurance is $200/month, but the COBRA price would probably be $800/month (so $10,000 for one year, but that’s a guess).
I have 2 questions about Medicaid in NY:
(1) My private insurance seems good, and I’m not sure if the doctors/tests I need will be covered by Medicaid. Is it likely that I will lose all of them, and need to find a completely different set of providers?
(2) How long does it take to get approved for Medicaid in New York? I’m worried it might take a long time before medicaid is approved for me. Until then, I still need my health insurance, so I might rely on COBRA.
