(Ohio) My previous employer ended coverage before the date on the termination letter

I (35F) in Ohio – was terminated from my position on 1/5. The termination letter states that my medical benefits through Anthem will terminate at midnight on 1/31/2021.

I am prescribed several expensive medications, including biologics – which would cost thousands of dollars each month if purchased out of pocket. Many of these medications refill on the 30th of each month.

Yesterday (1/30) I was informed by my provider that my coverage was declined. Upon following up with Anthem, I was told that my employer terminated the policy on the 29th.

I am now primarily doing 1099 work while I search for another w2 job. I am planning to get a policy off of the ACA exchange starting on 2/1. These medications are going to cost me thousands out of pocket – probably eating up the deductable and exorbitantly high out of pocket max in the first month,

What recourse do I have? I wanted to ask for advice on here before reaching out to the HR rep and my lawyer.

-Can coverage be retroactively activated so that these meds can be covered?

-I am at a loss for words as to what to do. I appreciate any advice out there.

TLDR – My previous employer ended my health insurance policy 2 days before promised. What can I do?
