I’m in Colorado, trying to buy a healthcare plan starting January 2021 for my spouse and me. We don’t have kids, and we would like to forgo dental/vision insurance this next year.
We found a plan we liked directly on an insurance provider’s site and we tried to purchase it, but we keep getting hit with a message to buy pediatric dental coverage. I understand that the ACA requires it as essential coverage, but we don’t have kids, so what’s going on?
The message I keep getting: “You must enroll in pediatric dental coverage unless you will be enrolled in a standalone dental plan that has been certified by a state Exchange. To determine if your standalone dental plan has been certified by a state Exchange, please refer to your health plan enrollment information or the website for your state Exchange.” Then, in order for me to continue with the application, I have to check a box that says I will apply for a standalone dental plan meeting the requirement.
