I signed up for Covered California after I got kicked off of my family’s plan in the middle of last year. I was unemployed at the time, so the monthly costs were essentially covered by CC. I set up autopay for the remainder of the cost and didn’t think about it much after that as I was just getting cheap coverage to have it. The new year came along and I didn’t re-up on my Kaiser plan, so I figured it just expired. There was an end date for the coverage on my tax form and everything. Turns out it was auto-renewed by CC and they’ve continued to cover the cost. Only, I got a decent paying job in the current year. I should have paid more attention to their mail or checked in on it, but hindsight and all that… now I’ve received subsidies I shouldn’t have qualified for. Does anyone know how screwed I’ll be when tax season hits? I go on company health insurance next month, but I’m afraid of penalties from the months I’ve been receiving medical I’d assumed I was dropped from. Is there a way to nip this in the bud? Or is the damage done until I file taxes?
