I’m receiving benefits at my new job soon, and for health insurance, one of the plan options seems too good to be true, labeled as “HDHP OAP with HSA.” It states that for all in-network care, “Plan pays 100%” for almost everything (Specialists, Mental Health, Lab tests, etc). For all out-of-network care, it’s 30% after deductible. This plan has the lowest monthly premiums, and the other options seem a lot more typical (e.g. $50 copay for Specialists, 20% after deductible for Mental Health).
I understand that healthcare from a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) is funded by a Health Savings Account (HSA) that I put pretaxed money into. So does that mean that by “Plan pays 100%,” it really means that I would be the one covering all expenses? It would be great if I was wrong and it was the insurance company paying for everything, but I don’t trust like that.
