UHC in Washington State.
I’m seeking psych eval services from a provider who is out of network and does not directly bill insurance. They gave me what they say is all the info I should need to request prior auth. But, when I chatted with a customer service rep at Optum/UHC, they said that it’s the provider who requests the authorization, and they won’t work directly with me.
Is this a hard and fast rule? I have all the information the provider gave me, and a letter explaining the service, but since I’m not actually the provider will they not talk to me?
