Prior Authorization Process

I’ve been working through trying to get authorization for a needed CT scan for three weeks. The first two weeks was just getting an answer and they rejected it saying there wasn’t enough proof that it was medically necessary. Then this week my doctor said she sent more information and I called the insurance today to check-in and they said they don’t see any new information. So I left a message for my doctor to call me back tomorrow to see what’s going on. I just want to know is my experience abnormal or is this common? During all this I’m uncomfortable and in pain still not knowing my diagnosis because this scan is key in doing so. It seems ridiculous to me.
