I am two years into a five year apprenticeship with a trade union. We have about 3000 members in our local. We have great health insurance that is administered through an insurance trust fund that is funded and managed by the local union.
Here is my issue; I’ve been on methadone for more than ten years for heroin addiction. I pay $105 per week to my clinic. A huge burden would be lifted off of my shoulders if some or all of my treatment was covered by my health plan, but I’m worried that my information may not be kept confidential. The administrators and managers of our insurance trust fund actually have offices in our union hall and I believe they are employees of the union. I’m one of only a couple hundred apprentices. This is a small organization, relatively speaking.
Am I being paranoid?
