Provider did not file claim within 90 days, insurance won’t cover

I got a covid test which my insurance company, Fidelis Care, would have covered 100% of the charges for, had the provider filed the claim within 90 days. Now the provider never filed the claim, but instead billed me the final amount for the entire covid test + urgent care office visit. The just mailed me a bill.

I called my insurance company, they said they had never received the claim but its been 90 days so it’s too late for the provider to file it. I’m annoyed that I would have to pay this bill because I know my insurance would have covered 100% had the claim been filed. Even if the insurance company wouldn’t have paid 100% I know they negotiate a final charge with the billing department, and it’s never the full amount to begin with.

Any tips that I should do in this situation? Should I call the billing dept. of urgent care and demand that the bill collector discount the fee due to this error, or void the charge completely? I’ve never been in such a situation before, I’d appreciate any help right now. Thank you!
