Hi y’all,
I’m looking for a bit of advice here. I went to an in-network rheumatologist a while back who suggested I get some bloodwork done. He suggested some bloodwork at his medical center (fine, fair enough), but said it’d be fine if I went elsewhere. I decided just to get it done at his establishment since I was already there.
Fast-forward a few weeks: I see a claim on the Anthem site that the bloodwork contractor is out-of-network and the cost was not covered. According to the site, I should expect a bill ~1700. That’s obviously a lot of money. I don’t have an official EOB but it always matches what’s on the site.
I already contacted the doctor’s office and they said they’d “look into it”. Should I also call insurance? I’m not sure what I can do here. Had I know the expense were this high, I’d have simply declined the bloodwork. Typically blood tests cost me around $7-15 at Quest Diagnostics after insurance, so that’s what I was expecting.
I detest stuff like this. There should always be an expected cost provided to the patient with some room for flexibility. Any advice from folks?
Thank you.
