Running Out of Options

63 y/o mother (will be 64 in February) has been denied by disability x 3 (not sure of exact reasoning father did initial applications). She hasn’t been able to work since 2013. Spoke with lawyer, they said it was likely they would deny again. Father lost job this year again (he is 64 will be 65 in April so he could qualify for medicare then potentially), they are still married. He has been denied unemployment, attempting another submission this week. They don’t qualify for Medicaid because of Father’s income prior to job loss. Mother is ill, hospitalized over 12 times this year alone. Can barley walk, can’t feed self, bathe, or manage medications and is about 85 pounds. My Dad is no help at home although he is there 24 hours a day. Both are severe alcoholics. Every hospitalization rehab is recommended, she has refused due to COVID. I am medical POA and her brain is basically mush but she has never been denied capacity officially when admitted even though she has failed multiple cognitive evaluations. Now there is no other option she needs placement no matter what, hoping with the COVID vaccine starting to get administered this week that she could get that and then get placed. They already have thousands of dollars of medical bills that they are unable to pay, their house is also not paid off and there of course is no income at all right now. Is there any other option for healthcare coverage? Would my parents need to legally separate and divide assets and then I could submit an application for her for medicaid? What do people do in this situation if family is unable to stay in home to assist with care? I have already taken two months off of work to assist with in home care and am unsure how much longer financially for them and myself I could go without working. TIA. I would appreciate any insight.
