For a 20k bill, my primary insurance paid 18k. After that, my secondary insurance – Anthem – paid ~$250 and said I owed the remaining ~$1,750. If this was 90% coinsurance, that might make sense. However, this is for a single line item and the entire $1,750 is listed under Copay…and it is not an even number (i’m simplifying the numbers here…it’s more like $1,783.99). Our copay for in-network inpatient hospital (this line item) is $250 and then 10% after deductible. We called yesterday and were given wrong statements such as that this was out-of-network (it’s not…as confirmed by the insurance company’s own EOB).
Even if this was trying to calculate $250 per day for four days (as an aggregated line) and then billing us for 10% of the remainder…that would be $1,000 for the four days + $100 for the remaining against the total of $2k. So, that would be $1,100 total…not $1,750…and i’m not sure that being billed the copay four times is even right for a single line item.
Appreciate any thoughts or advice.
