Hey there, so I don’t know if this is the right place to post, but I’m kind of at my witt’s end, so here it goes
I am congenitally missing 8 of my adult teeth, just born without them, my dad was too.
At this point, I have six baby teeth left in my mouth, had braces for 4 years as a teenager. My 4 baby teeth on the top are starting to fail, the roots have reabsorbed.
My dentist says that my only real option is implants. They can’t do a bridge because the distance is too great and it wouldn’t hold because it is at a critical bite point. So he says it is even medically necessary, without implants, I will face bone loss (not to mention issues with eating). He quotes me about $15,000 for four implants. Which there is no way we can afford.
Our dental insurance won’t cover it– they only cover like cleanings and fillings, and even then only cover up to $1000 a year.
I called our health insurance to ask if they covered it since it was a congenital defect and my dentist said it was medically necessary, but they said no.
Does this sound like something my health insurance should cover? Should I try again? Give up? Do you have any advice?
Edit: I am 27 and live in Eastern Washington
