So confused about Texas marketplace insurance

My family will be moving to Texas for 11 months for my husbands schooling. He will not be working and his school only provides the students insurance, no options for their families. I have a professional medical license, but will not be working as I will have a newborn. We have also saved for years so that I am able to stay home with my kids. With two people not working, health insurance is becoming an issue.

As we are only in Texas for 11 months, we do not want to change our current residency to get on Medicaid. It is my understanding that Texas Medicaid makes you prove you are looking for a job….but I wont be looking for a job as I will be taking care of our children. My kids and I just need insurance.

So our 2nd option was to get on Texas marketplace. We would have to ‘fib’ about our expected income, as we actually wont have an income. Are there any repercussions of saying you make more than you actually make?

When researching providers who take marketplace in Tarrant county (specifically looking for pediatricians and womens health) it appears no one actually takes marketplace?!?! Is marketplace in Tarrant country actually just glorified catastrophic insurance?

We are at a loss and just keep hitting dead ends. We have travelled extensively in the states and have NEVER had this much difficulty getting on marketplace. Are we missing something? Or is this the current state of Texas marketplace? We continue to be baffled my this.

We have worked very hard to save enough money for me to stay home with our kids. I refuse to go back to work, pay a stranger an exorbitant amount of money to watch my children purely because Texas health insurance is horrific. Please tell me we are missing something!
