Teacher wants out, but can I swing it?

Hi! NYS teacher here. Husband’s self employed. I have great health insurance for our family of 3. Lately I’ve been thinking about staying home while my son is young. Might be for just a year (can take a year sabbatical without losing my job) or until my son starts pre-school, Pre-K or kindergarten. One major thing that’s holding me back from doing this is health insurance. I’ve always had this job so I never had to worry about searching.

Me: 32, healthy Husband: 33, physically healthy, therapist + prescriptions for mental health Baby: 8 months, healthy

Husband’s income: around $30k (if I stay home, he will be able to work more)

What are your suggestions? Are we doomed? Will I be stuck in my job forever? Where do I start?

Thank you
