So, I’ve moved a lot in the last 10 years, but have done a full circle. I have most of my medical record (nothing notable, I’m healthy & active). My primary care doc refers me for routine, age & family history related colonoscopy. I have no current issues. I’ve also had several colonoscopies in the past- all clear, so nothing remarkable to note. Now, I’m referred to a GI office I went to in 2010. They insist that I have an appt before scheduling a routine screening procedure that my primary doc has ordered. Is my primary doc not qualified to assess my health is sufficient for a routine, screening procedure for which my age & family history meets AMA guidelines? No blood pressure issues, past surgeries indicate no issues with anesthesia , etc. Is this just GI’s ploy to be able to bill an extra “service” /appointment??? What info are they really going to gather that my primary doc can’t give them that would be relevant to doing (or not doing) a routine screening?
