My divorce will be finalized Nov. 4th and I’ll lose my husbands employer provided health insurance. I’ve been looking on the Marketplace and am so confused and disappointed. Most of the plans I’m finding cost almost 50% of my monthly income with very high deductibles. How is this considered affordable? When I select “estimated yearly cost” the numbers almost total my projected annual income. I don’t typically go to the doctor often; annual exam and the occasional flu/infection/injury. I feel like I’d be better off putting the same amount of money into a savings account and paying cash. Are there catastrophic only plans that are used only if something major happens?
Age 54, Female, non-smoker
Tennessee
No dependents
Self-employed ; projected 2021 income approx. $8-10k
