Was hoping someone could provide me with some suggestions as to what to do in order to pay for necessary medical treatment. For the past few years I’ve mostly been unable to work due to severe symptoms caused by my TMJ. I’m in constant severe pain and my jaw has a very limited range of motion, not to mention a number of other symptoms caused by my TMJ.
These health issues have made it near impossible for me to work for a concerted amount of time. I worked for about 2 months in 2021 in an attempt to work long enough to qualify for health insurance but was forced to resign after my jaw and neck pain worsened to the point where I could barely focus on a task for more than a few minutes.
I know almost nothing of health insurance apart from the fact that most people acquire it through their job after 3 months usually. I’ve had to rely on my parents to help me pay basic bills and for some treatments that did not end up working. I’m currently in braces to help treat the underlying issue but have recently been in even more pain than before and will have to wait at least 3-4 months before the braces are supposed to start helping me.
My parents are getting frustrated with me and think I may be lying or exaggerating my jaw issues. They are going through financial issues currently and are wanting me to pay rent now. I’m afraid that I don’t have the ability to wait for much longer and am contemplating speaking to a surgeon as a last resort. I have seen that depending on what exactly the procedure will entail, the cost could be anywhere from $10,000 – $100,000, and that I may possibly need braces after the procedure is done and I’ve healed.
TLDR:
I’ll be turning 26 in May and read that I won’t qualify for my dads’ insurance which won’t kick in until March-April. Are there any low cost options for an unemployed, or low income adult, that would cover most of the costs for a jaw surgery?
It wouldn’t have to be completely free but I’m not able to pay too much either. I’m not able to work any physical labor jobs or jobs that need me to talk frequently throughout the day. I’d appreciate any type of suggestion.
Thank you.
