Hi all, trying to understand dependent re-verification.
Last year, my mom’s insurance through her union job requested documentation that me and my father were still her daughter and spouse. We didn’t realize we had received that request until my dad was in the hospital with COVID and they told us our insurance had been cancelled. We quickly sent them the paperwork they requested.
Almost exactly a year later, they are asking to re-verify that my parents are still married. Is that normal to do? I know they can do it whenever they want to, but it strikes me as odd that they have done it two years in a row especially since they had never asked for re-verification in the 20 or so years she’s had him on her insurance.
My dad is 68 years old so we think they’re trying to push him into taking Medicare vs being on my mom’s insurance. I aged out already so that’s why they’re no longer concerned about me.
