We just reduced out Healthcare.gov premiums $900/month w new American Rescue Plan Act ARPA

We are a self employed family if 6 (4 kids). While not rich, our MAGI falls just above the income cutoff for ACA subsidies (the cliff). Therefore, our healthcare costs $1704/month for a Bronze level High Deductible plan. So we also pay out of pocket up to about $5000 per person for 2 people, or about $10,000 for the family for the year. It’s a huge burden but we buy healthcare insurance because we are more worried about bankruptcy if someone in our family has any major medical issue and we needed a plan to cover pre existing conditions, so emergency or health sharing ministries don’t work. It’s a huge expense every month, second only to our house mortgage. We picked bronze, high deductible because better plans were over $2K/month. It’s been terrible.

We just resubmitted our ACA Healthcare.gov application and are saving about $900/ month on premiums due to the American Rescue Plan Act. I almost cried. It’s only good for this year and next but it’s such a huge relief for our family. I hope this info helps others.

I urge you all to check it out. Link to info on Healthcare.gov is https://www.healthcare.gov/more-savings/

Here’s an article that discusses the change https://www.kff.org/health-reform/issue-brief/impact-of-key-provisions-of-the-american-rescue-plan-act-of-2021-covid-19-relief-on-marketplace-premiums/
