Confusing and complicated backstory:
In May 2021 I had a strange medical problem and went in for a couple of exams etc. In July 2021, I moved from WA to IL and in October switched from WA state insurance with UHC to my employer’s insurance with UHC. Somehow my employer’s insurance backdated itself to before May, which made whatever was covered in WA “out of network.” Now, I tried to pay one of the smaller bills and it was never processed on the provider’s so it was just refunded to me and it looks like it was taken off my insurance as “paid”. The larger bills I have tried to contest but for some reason UHC does not have a record of who provided the service, and therefore doesn’t have enough information to contest it. But when I gave them information about who provided the services and what they were, they said they still didn’t have enough. Plus I can’t figure out where one of the larger bills is from because it doesn’t fit with any of the procedures/exams I had, or their locations. At this point I don’t know what to do because both original service providers have given me explanation of benefits etc and I have sent those to the insurance only to be told I need different information. I just can’t seem to get the right information from anyone. There doesn’t seem to be a “pay by X date” anywhere on the bills.
(Oh, I also have since switched to a different job and therefore don’t even have that employer’s insurance anymore, and switched to a completely different insurance provider too.)
So what happens if I let the bill sit for a bit? I want to keep trying to figure out what I need to contest it but it’s very exhausting because no one wants to cooperate on either side and I can’t seem to get the right information from anybody and the stuff I can get isn’t what the other side needs, apparently. It’s very frustrating.
