Hi friends I have a conundrum for you! Here are the facts:
My partner and I currently each are insured separately through our jobs. On 3/12 we are getting married. On 7/1 we are moving to a different state where he will continue at his same job remotely and I will work as an independent contractor. After we move, I want to get on his health insurance.
When do I get on his health insurance?
Is my only qualifying event to get on his insurance in April after we get married? (and pay extra to be double insured for 3 months) Do I also have a qualifying event to get on his insurance in July after we move, I leave my own job and I lose my separate insurance? OR do I have to wait until his benefits have an open enrollment period?
I’m imagining there is a US federal policy that applies here. What do you think?
