Our situation: married, 30s, no kids. Husband carries our health ins through his employer, less than 20 employees. I am currently unemployed. $300/mo with $10k deductible. Old job ended Thursday Feb 3 and new job started today Feb 7.
My husband has changed jobs but new health ins won’t kick in for 3 months. From what I’m reading, WI does not make COBRA mandatory for employers with less than 20 employees.
Before I learned that, I asked him to find out what the full premium would be. His former employer told us $900.00
Does that mean this specific employer does offer COBRA? Is that an option for small businesses?

My next question is about short term plans. The price is certainly attractive. (Without inputting too many specifics I saw $184/mo and $8400 deductible) We do not forsee needing insurance during this 3 month gap until the new employer’s ins kicks in. Is there anything bad re: these plans that I should be aware of? I’ve never knew short term plans were available until today.
The short term plans I found on the Cobra website are names I’ve never heard of, and poking around on healthcare.gov I didnt find anything for short term. Granted I’m on mobile, so searching can be harder.
I will have computer access tomorrow. What do i need to be on the lookout for?
I apologize if these questions seem vague. I’m feeling very out of my league and don’t even know what I need to be asking.
I’ll be around to answer any follow up questions. Thank you for your help!
