Would My Spouse Qualify For CA Medicaid (Medi-Cal) If She Lost Most Of Her Income Last Year and We Were to File Taxes Separately?

My wife lost most of her income last year due to COVID. She received unemployment for part of the year. I am thinking about filing our taxes separately so that she could use Medi-Cal and save some money (we are both self-employed so we would otherwise be applying for a subsidy through the exchange, Covered California). Does this work, or is a marriage necessarily a “household” when it comes to the exchange?

I am epileptic and need the highest level of insurance. My wife is healthy. We have used medi-cal before and were happy with it.
