X Post from /personalfinance I owe for months of therapy out-of-network

Hellllo Reddit

I turned 26 last year and started paying for health insurance via my union. I’ve also been seeing a therapist since ~June 2020. In September 2020 the insurance expired, unbeknownst to me, and since then I’ve been continuing out-of-network visits with my therapist. I didn’t realize I’ve been having visits out-of-network until my claims were submitted for reimbursement by my therapist about a week ago.

For some reason I thought my insurance would automatically renew… definitely kicking myself.

I’m now looking at paying the full price for my sessions for those five months. I’ve called my union, my insurance, and my previous employer, and I’m not feeling like I have any great options… What would you do? Do I just bite the bullet? I think my out of pocket expense would be somewhere around $200 per session.

Thank you!!!
