26 in December, advice for choosing new health insurance?

hi all o/

so i turn 26 in December, which will mean losing my mom’s health insurance (she’s in the medical field so it’s relatively decent insurance). i’m employed and already get dental & vision through work, but health is much more expensive (i pay less than $15/mo for each of the other insurances).

i live in michigan. i don’t make a ton of money (~$35k/yr) but i don’t think i fall below the range needed to qualify for medicaid or anything like that (according to the michigan gov website, anyway). i’m in decent health and don’t have any major conditions. i do have adhd, and take prescribed adderall (20mg) once a day. this also currently requires me to visit my PCP every three months for a drug test and to renew the scripts.

currently, my meds cost $10/mo (i need to check if i get a generic or not), and if i remember right from looking at last year’s open enrollment documents, that would go up to at least $45/mo under the two cheaper plans my company offers, not to mention the premium cost being taken out of my pay. currently i pay a $25 co-pay per visit every 3mos, i don’t remember what the cost for that would be with work’s plans. i also really, really need to find a therapist, but have had to hold off for now because of my looming insurance change. i believe when i went before, it was also only a $25 charge per visit as well.

i’m mostly wondering, are plans outside of work worth looking into? it was suggested to be beneficial to shop around if you make less than $50k, and i don’t exactly have a ton of excess room in my budget for increased expenses/decreased paychecks bc of insurance costs, especially since loan payments will unfreeze in january as well.

is there a good resource to look into this? i searched on the ACA site, but since i’m employed and my employer offers insurance, i don’t qualify for any premium discounts.

thank you so much for any input or advice!!
