Navigating an insurance change during a medical procedure

Hi all, I’m balancing a job & insurance change during an expensive medical procedure (egg freezing), and I’d appreciate a gut check and any watch outs for how I’m planning to handle health coverage: My current employer covers the procedure, new employer does not. Egg freezing is not usually covered and I recognize that I’m extremely lucky, and probably wouldn’t be doing this if I had to pay entirely out of pocket. New job has to start in early September, the procedure is scheduled for end of September/early October. There is a strong chance I’ll need to do a second cycle, but that’s TBD at the moment. I’ve already got my preauthorization from my current insurance for 2 cycles, and I’m just waiting for my turn on the clinic’s schedule.

I’m planning to do COBRA with my current employer’s insurance through at least the first cycle, while also enrolling in my new employer’s coverage on my start date. I’ve never held 2 health insurance police’s simultaneously before. Any red flags on my plan I should be aware of? Suggestions welcome.

Thanks all!

Edit per mod instructions: I’m 36, live in Chicago but new employer is out of state, not sure if that is meaningful. Income over 150k annually, so yes I can technically afford to pay for egg freezing out of pocket but would prefer not to.
