I had surgery done recently and the anesthesiologist is billing for 12 combined units on anesthesia with base+time. Im being charged $110 per unit and my insurance says they negotiated this rate with the in network provider. I dont have Medicaid or Medicare, but looking up their rates, they only paid $15-20 per unit. I was in surgery for 45 mins. Does this sound right to pay more than 5x what Medicare allows for unit reimbursement when I go to an in network provider? Both insurance and the provider are saying tough luck I need to pay the $1300, nothing I can do the rate is the rate.
