My employer’s healthcare plan is changing and we have 2 options to choose from: BluePrint and BlueEdge HSA. Currently, I’m the only one on my plan, and my husband has his own through his job. We are trying to get pregnant, so my plan will be changing from individual to family, and not sure which will be better in the long run. I feel like the BlueEdge HSA would be fine for just me (I typically just go for my annual check up and flu shot), but obviously I’ll have more visits when pregnant, then delivery, then baby doctor visits.
- Deductibles
- BluePrint offers $1,000 individual / $3,000 family when in-network and $2,000 individual / $6,000 family when out of network.
- BlueEdge HSA offers $2,800 individual / $5,600 family when in-network; out-of-network deductibles are double.
- Premiums
- BluePrint would cost $101 per month for employees and $455 per month for families regardless of the number of dependents you have.
- BlueEdge HSA would cost $82 per month for employees and $368 per month for families, again regardless of the number of dependents you have.
- Copays
- BluePrint: $30 primary care visit; 20% coinsurance most everything else
- BlueEdge HSA: Deductible then 20% coinsurance (This is what confuses me the most. Do I pay out of pocket in full for each doctor visit until I get to the $2,800 deductible?)
I’m 31, live in 28217 (Charlotte, NC), and make about $60,000/year. No underlying health conditions. My husband is 35 and makes about $35,000/year. Any advice on this would be awesome.. I’m a bit lost! We don’t have an HR department, and this is being handled by our SVP of Finance, who wasn’t able to answer my questions.
