Cancellation Consequences?

I’m starting a new Exchange insurance plan for 2021 (Illinois). I anticipate needing a pretty big surgery almost immediately. I’m also unsure I’ll be able to afford paying my premiums all year long. What is the consequence of policy cancellation due to nonpayment?

I know not having insurance obviously could have all sorts of consequences. I’m asking about what might happen if/when I am able to sign up and pay again for an Exchange policy down the road. Will this come back to haunt me? Thanks.
