I’m having some trouble finding information on “plan allowances”. Plans I am comparing (specifically GEHA HDHP and Standard) use primarily co-insurance, nominally 5% for the HDHP and 15% for the standard plan, so that the cost is, Cost = 0.05*plan_allowance (or 0.15) for a given service post-deductible. However, I can’t find anywhere that says that the plan allowance for the HDHP plan is the same as the plan allowance for the Standard plan, and in fact I suspect they are different since the two plans have different provider networks. Without the knowledge that the plan allowances are the same, or at the very least some examples of plan allowances for different services, I’m not sure how it’s possible to compare two health plans.
Does anyone have experience with plan allowances between two plans available from the same insurance company? Are they typically similar for a given service and provider? It really seems as though this information should be required to be provided by law, otherwise how can you know what coverage you are purchasing. Thanks for the help!
