Confused: Can I have a health plan for 2 weeks before getting a new one?

Hello everyone,

I joined a new company this week and I’m a fully remote employee. As of now, I live in California but I’ll be moving in mid-late December to the East coast. I have 30 days to elect benefits at my new job, and since I’m currently living in CA the health plans they sent me are for CA residents.

My question is, when I move to the East coast in a few weeks, can I get a new health plan? This might be a stupid question but it seemed odd to me to get a new health plan right before I move, and I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to enroll into a new plan once I get to my new home on the East coast?

EDIT: I know I should ask HR as well, but wanted to ask here for additional advice. Thanks!
