Dependent college student in NYC, no health insurance

Hello everyone,

Before the pandemic, I was enrolled in health insurance under my moms workplace health insurance. When she lost her job to covid, we lost the health insurance. My parents are immigrants who came here at a late age who I have to baby sit sometimes. We used to be on Medicaid/Fidelis, but we started making too much to be on it, and that’s when we switched to my moms workplace insurance. My parents are just waiting it out I guess. I don’t know, they’re pretty dumb and hopeless when it comes to stuff like this, so I’ve just been trying to figure out how I, as a tax filing dependent college student, can get my own coverage for free/cheap.

I have spent countless hours and talked to countless people about this. I have friends who are also college students who have super super cheap health insurance that’s just under their name, but when I tried going the routes they went, I kept getting told it would be 300-500 dollars a month. I have one friend enrolled in Obamacare himself, and another friend with another private insurance paying 20 a month. Remember we are all dependents of our parents.

I’m just really lost and scared. My body is breaking down, I have so many medical concerns and I just don’t know what to do or where to go. I’m tired of calling places for hours just to be rejected or told it’s gonna be hundreds of dollars a month. Of course I would love to get my parents covered as I get insanely anxious thinking about how they don’t have health insurance at their old age. I wish they weren’t so useless with this stuff, but their English sucks and they’ve only been in this country for 10 years and are in their late 50s. Any type of help would be appreciated.
