Do you have to be a resident to get insurance in MI

I am moving to MI in early January from FL and I am very anxious about acquiring insurance since I have never been without insurance. I know that open enrollment ends dec 15 but I don’t know whether to enroll in Michigan or Florida. I’m not even an official resident of MI yet. On top of it all I am losing benefits on December 31st from my employer as I move into an independent contractor position.

Is dec 15 the deadline to get insurance? I am not sure what my income will be but I know it will be significantly less than when I was officially employed with my company. It is also incredibly hard to get an appointment with the Secretary of State to renew my license and everything. I am so stressed about this. Any guidance / help will be greatly appreciated!

Any plan suggestions for an independent contractor as well? I am used to BCBS.
