Emergency Room coverage

On mobile.

Hello,

My partner became ill over a week ago. We tried to hold off until he could become effective on my plan but he wound up in the ER before that.

My insurance is HPN HMO through my employer. I’m located in NV. 89122. My partner is 31M.

We went to an ER that is covered by my insurance. I called my employer who said that they send in info about insurance changes on Fridays (today) and that they would try to rush process it so he could get a member number.

I told the ER that he has no insurance at the moment and that he will be needing a case worker to help him.

If the insurance becomes effective today and I get a number. What do I need to do to facilitate them covering it?

He doesn’t have much money at all and hasn’t been able to work because of covid. I dont have money either but I have a credit card that might cover copay and deductible if the insurance takes it.

What should I tell the case worker? Is it possible that they will help cover him if the insurance is denied?? Or a portion of the insurance only covers him little will they help with the rest?

What else should I be doing??

When they start asking for money, how should I approach it? I want to avoid as much financial damage as possible like everyone else. We are a young couple starting out.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Side note: He was going to get insurance through his employer on the 1st of the year but now he will have to go on an LOA so that is now null.

Edit: words
