I went to Urgent care recently and they told me to go to the ER, so I did. Was there about an hour and a half, saw a doctor for about ~30 minutes during that time, got a blood test and CT scan and they say they “Amount Billed” is $25,000+. The plan discount brings it down to $3800. I don’t understand it, I get that there are negotiated rates, but if I didn’t have health insurance would they really charge $25k? That seems like cruel and unusual punishment. I don’t even understand what could potentially add up to that cost, that’d have to be 5-10x any expectations of price I saw online. From what I can see online without insurance, I would’ve expected the bill to be ~$2500. Just curious about how this all works.
