I just started a new job and got a new insurance (first professional job). Opted for the lowest deductible which is $1,600, Coinsurance 20%, ER copay $150. I have not received the EOB yet, but the big portion of the ER bill was 15k. After discount and Ins. paid, it comes down to around 3k. It looks like the insurance is doing what it’s supposed to do but I can’t afford 3k right now, I can probably pay a lump sum of 1k max. I recently used a big chunk of my savings to help pay for my cousin’s health bill. So sorry for the ignorant question, is there something I can do to negotiate the bill down? I wouldn’t even know what to say even if I call. I’ve never had to pay a hospital bill this big before (never seen an ER billing insurance $15,000!!) and I don’t think they will write this off as charity.
I appreciate all advice
Thank you
