I suspect that my insurance wouldn’t pay for some out-of-state lab tests, but am not sure, and the lab says that they take medicaid (I have medicaid via a state program I think) and it should be fine, and tell me to just take the tests and see what happens. This sounds dangerous, what do?

(Dunno if it’s Medicare or Medicaid, I don’t mean the old people one)

So I have MassHealth, and a bunch of tests from a doctor that’s out-of-state. The doctor doesn’t take the insurance, plus which I’ve done some reading and the state health insurance doesn’t pay for out-of-state doctor’s visits, but, like, it’s fine I paid for the visit out of pocket. Doctor also ordered lab tests, with a company that I’ve been able to get tests done with before with my local doctors. But, the tests would be like several thousands of dollars, and I want to check whether they’d be covered before getting them – but the lab company tells me they can’t check and to get the test and see what happens. But then I’m on the hook for the bills! I can’t just agree to pay bills without knowing if I’ll afford them. What do I do?

I know the insurance would cover everything if the doctor was local, which this doctor isn’t; the doctor is kind of a specialist, and is willing to consider my problems where my local doctors refuse to order tests or hear me out.

Does MassHealth cover tests ordered by out-of-state doctors, even though I’m pretty sure they don’t cover medication prescribed? The testing place claims that they have financial assistance but they won’t tell me if I qualify before I get the test, is there any way to check? I really can’t afford to be paying them thousands of dollars.
