Income question

I’m 19 years old and filing my taxes independently. Meaning I am NOT a dependent of my parents or anybody. I also have my own separate insurance and am not on my parents policy.

My parents did not include my income in their estimate for household income in 2020 because they knew they would not claim me as a dependent. The person they talked to from The Marketplace told them not to include my income if they weren’t going to claim me on their taxes.

Now, we’re being told by an accountant that they messed up and that they had to include my income.

What’s the deal here? Did my parents mess up? Did they have to include my income even though I’m not a dependent?
