Insurance denied my ER claim after I was sent there from a virtual urgent care visit

I apologize if this is the wrong subreddit. If it is, please point me in the direction of the correct one and I’ll delete this post from here and repost it there.

About a month ago, I had a virtual urgent care appointment due to some minor breathing issues I was experiencing. Due to those issues, I was told during that appointment that I needed to go to the ER. I told them that I didn’t think that was necessary, but they said since it was a virtual visit and they couldn’t listen to my lungs in person, that I needed to go to the ER in case it was serious.

Today, I got a letter in the mail stating that my insurance company denied the claim since it was determined that the issue was not an emergency. I have the paperwork from the urgent care visit that shows that they are the ones who instructed me to to go to the ER.

Has anyone ever dealt with something like this? I plan to dispute it but I’m not sure what to say or how to word it. I’m likely going to mention that it was the doctor who sent me to the ER based on my symptoms, and that I did not make the decision to go of my own free will.

Also, I am in Michigan if that information helps.

Any advice is appreciated
