Kaiser dropped me and I need insurance while I figure it out

I live in northern California.

I just found out that Kaiser’s auto billing was unable to use my address when billing my card and dropped my coverage of several years yesterday. I called their office today to figure out what was going on and was told I would need to mail their customer service to ask for reinstatement (despite the fact that I was able to complete the payment over the phone).

I am only familiar with Kaiser. I am looking at what else I can do to have insurance because it is obviously unacceptable to go however many weeks without insurance while I wait to hear back from their customer service via mail.

Are there things such as 1 month insurance plans I can sign up for immediately while waiting for Kaiser to figure out the problem?

What is Blue Shield? That seems to be my only other option for California. Should I just switch to that? How would I know what hospital would help me if I needed it?
