Need End-of-Year Advice

21, California, ~20k/year.

I went to the hospital at the start of the month. I recently applied for health insurance after having the rude awakening of paying a medical bill without insurance. I got approved for 2020 and have reviewed my plans on CoveredCa’s marketplace. I am conflicted whether or not I should pick and pay for a plan just for it to end on the 31’st of December. It says my coverage would begin on Dec 1, 2020. Would there be any benefit of doing so if I just have to apply again for 2021? As in, would it be easier to reapply or just renew for 2021 if I am covered for December? Should I begin applying for 2021 right now?
