First time trying to enroll in a marketplace plan and it’s going as well I expected. Just learned over the phone with my state’s marketplace that I needed to confirm a plan selection by April 15th in order for my plan to start by May 1st. First time ever hearing this. I never saw a notice telling me this. I thought I had until at least April 30th…since that’s how every other health insurance I’ve ever used worked! In fact, most plans I used let me enroll after the coverage period started.
I called up and they rejected my appeal to start earlier.
So…now I won’t have any health insurance coverage for 1.5 months because of these logistics.
What am I suppose to do? What if something unforeseen happens and I have a hospitalization during that time??
I looked into short-term health insurance, which I know can start immediately. But apparently New York State made it illegal to sell non-marketplace individual plans!
